The verdict

Otter is the right call if you only ever take notes inside Zoom meetings on a laptop. Scribr is the right call if your work also happens in coffee shops, on the phone, in client offices and on the move.

What people ask

Switching from Otter.ai?

Does Scribr send a bot into my meetings?+
No. Scribr records from your phone — in the room, on a call, or from an audio file you upload. There's never a bot joining the meeting.
Where is the audio transcribed?+
On Pro, you choose. On-device uses Apple Speech (iOS 26+) or WhisperKit locally — nothing leaves the phone. Cloud transcription uses Deepgram nova-2 with a zero-data-retention contract. Free tier records audio locally; transcription is a Pro+ feature.
Will my recordings be used to train AI?+
No. Anthropic (Claude 3.5 Haiku, used for summaries) and Deepgram (used for cloud transcription) both operate on zero-retention contracts with MRVL. Your transcripts are never used to train any model.
Is there a minute cap on transcription?+
No. Scribr Pro and Team are flat-rate — record and transcribe as much as you want. AI summaries are metered at 500/month on Pro and 1,500/month on Team to keep the price honest.
Can I record phone calls?+
Yes, on supported devices where local law allows. Inform the other party that you're recording — Scribr does not announce the recording on your behalf.
What is Vault Mode?+
Vault Mode encrypts a note with AES-GCM behind your Face ID / Touch ID. Vault notes are excluded from the main list, from search and from the web view at getscribr.app. They live only on the device that captured them.
